Honoring what people can do.
ABLED is a Nebraska-based organization serving people with developmental and intellectual disabilities, as well as seniors and adults who need in-home or community support to live independently.
About ABLED
As a DHHS-certified Medicaid waiver provider, ABLED specializes in Developmental Disabilities Waiver and Aging & Disability Waiver programs. Additionally, ABLED is a certified Risk Provider with LIMHP on staff. The organization is even expanding into mental health services. We are committed to providing comprehensive care and support tailored to each person’s unique needs.
ABLED’s staff work closely with each individual to build skills and self-reliance. Focusing on what participants can do rather than what they can’t. This combination of compassion and expertise helps ABLED create a caring culture. Overall, the organization’s name – ABLED – reflects its belief that every person is able to live a full, meaningful life with the right support.
Our Mission
To glorify Jesus Christ by cultivating an environment where individuals of all abilities flourish in freedom and belonging.
Our Values
Faith-Driven
Rooted in the love of Christ, ABLED serves with compassion and purpose — recognizing that true care embraces body, mind, community and spirit. We seek to be a safe and welcoming place where all people can grow as part of whole-person flourishing.
Freedom-Minded
We believe freedom is essential to human dignity. We strive to give every individual as much choice and independence as safely and meaningfully possible — because true care protects and empowers at the same time.
Family-Oriented
We’re family-owned and family-inspired — born from a love for Andrew Tagart, who lived his life with a developmental disability. We understand how deeply disabilities impact entire families, and we serve others with the same care we would want for our own.
Our Story
On October 7, 2012, Andrew C. Tagart went home to be with his Savior. Andrew lived his life with a developmental disability and was, and continues to be, greatly loved. He taught those around him the value of treating others with compassion, dignity, and love.
In his honor, Andrew's friends and family came together with a shared mission: to ensure others living with developmental disabilities could experience the same freedom and belonging he deserved. In February 2014, ABLED was founded.
ABLED celebrated ten years of service in 2024. In May of 2025, the agency highlighted four long-term participants who have been with ABLED since the beginning.
