At ABLED, the Day Program Supervisor serves as a key operational and leadership resource within our day and community-based services. This role helps ensure participant needs are consistently met through operational oversight, staffing coordination, service continuity management, and day-to-day leadership support across assigned programs and services.

The Day Program Supervisor plays an active role in maintaining staffing stability, supporting DSP staff, reinforcing accountability and professionalism, addressing operational challenges, and helping ensure services remain organized, responsive, compliant, and participant-centered within a fast-paced environment.

This position combines operational leadership, staffing coordination, workflow management, staff coaching, problem-solving, and direct service knowledge in a way that directly impacts participant outcomes, service quality, and organizational effectiveness.

The Day Program Supervisor exercises independent judgment in responding to staffing needs, service adjustments, operational priorities, and participant support considerations while helping maintain the consistency, reliability, and effectiveness of services across ABLED’s programs.

This role supports the people who support others—serving as a dependable operational leader and resource for staff while helping maintain the quality, stability, and continuity of services throughout the organization.

Essential Responsibilities

Leadership & Staff Supervision

  • Direct and supervise day-to-day operations and DSP staff performance across assigned programs and services

  • Provide leadership, guidance, accountability, and operational oversight to DSP staff regarding participant supports, service expectations, documentation standards, and daily service delivery

  • Monitor staff performance, professionalism, responsiveness, and adherence to agency policies, participant rights, and person-centered support practices

  • Assist in onboarding, training reinforcement, mentorship, and performance development of DSP staff

  • Address day-to-day operational concerns, staffing issues, employee conflicts, participant support concerns, and service-related challenges utilizing sound judgment and professionalism

  • Communicate operational concerns, staffing risks, service gaps, documentation issues, and performance concerns to leadership as appropriate

  • Promote consistency, accountability, professionalism, teamwork, and quality service delivery throughout assigned programs and services

Staffing & Operational Management

  • Develop, manage, and adjust staffing assignments and schedules to maintain operational continuity, participant safety, regulatory compliance, and effective service delivery

  • Exercise independent judgment in determining staffing assignments based on participant needs, staff qualifications, interpersonal dynamics, behavioral support considerations, scheduling priorities, and operational demands

  • Independently respond to staffing shortages, call-ins, coverage gaps, scheduling conflicts, and operational disruptions while ensuring continuity of services

  • Monitor staffing patterns, service coverage, and operational needs to proactively identify and resolve staffing concerns

  • Communicate staffing expectations, scheduling changes, operational priorities, and service adjustments with DSP staff in a timely and professional manner

  • Coordinate staffing transitions, participant onboarding adjustments, and service modifications to support operational stability and participant success

  • Provide recommendations regarding staffing effectiveness, workflow efficiency, operational improvement opportunities, and service coordination needs

Habilitative Service Delivery

  • Provide direct habilitative services on a limited and operationally necessary basis to support continuity of services and operational stability

  • Support participants in developing independence, communication, vocational, social, community integration, and daily living skills consistent with Individual Service Plans (ISPs)

  • Promote participant choice, self-direction, dignity, confidence-building, and individualized skill development

  • Safely transport participants and utilize community-based activities as opportunities for learning, engagement, and growth

Documentation & Compliance

  • Ensure accurate, timely, and complete Therap documentation including T-Logs, Attendance, S-Comms, MARs, GERs, Programs, and Appointments

  • Monitor documentation quality and reinforce documentation expectations, compliance standards, and operational accountability with DSP staff

  • Support compliance with state regulations, agency policies, participant safety standards, habilitative service requirements, and documentation expectations

  • Administer medications in accordance with agency policy and applicable documentation requirements

  • Identify, address, and communicate documentation concerns, compliance risks, operational deficiencies, or participant safety concerns requiring corrective action or leadership follow-up

Crisis Prevention & Behavioral Support

  • Implement Mandt de-escalation techniques and behavior support strategies to prevent and respond to behavioral crises

  • Provide direction and support to DSP staff regarding implementation of behavior support plans, crisis response procedures, and participant safety practices

  • Maintain calm, professional, trauma-informed, and participant-centered responses during crisis situations

  • Promote safe, consistent, and effective support practices across assigned programs and services

Team Collaboration

  • Collaborate effectively with the Day Program Coordinator, DSP staff, families, guardians, and community partners

  • Participate in meetings, trainings, and ongoing professional development opportunities

  • Communicate effectively regarding participant progress, staffing concerns, operational needs, and service coordination

  • Contribute ideas, feedback, and solutions that support participant outcomes and organizational improvement

Required Qualifications

Leadership & Staff Support

  • Provide day-to-day supervision, guidance, and operational support to DSP staff

  • Assist DSPs in navigating participant needs, service expectations, documentation requirements, and daily challenges

  • Reinforce professionalism, accountability, participant rights, and person-centered support practices

  • Help support positive team culture through leadership, communication, consistency, and follow-through

  • Assist with onboarding, mentorship, and ongoing support of new DSP staff

  • Communicate staffing concerns, service risks, operational challenges, and team needs to leadership appropriately

  • Model professionalism, sound judgment, responsiveness, and strong communication in daily operations

Staffing & Service Coordination

  • Support implementation of staffing schedules and assist in maintaining service continuity across assigned programs and services

  • Help address day-to-day staffing challenges, schedule changes, call-ins, and participant support needs as they arise

  • Assist in ensuring participant services remain appropriately staffed and operationally stable

  • Communicate with DSP staff regarding schedule updates, service adjustments, and operational priorities

  • Support smooth transitions during participant onboarding, staffing changes, or service adjustments

  • Help maintain organization, responsiveness, and operational follow-through throughout daily services

Habilitative Service Delivery

  • Provide direct habilitative services as operationally necessary

  • Support participants in developing independence, communication, vocational, social, and community integration skills

  • Assist participants in achieving goals identified within Individual Service Plans (ISPs)

  • Encourage participant choice, self-direction, confidence-building, and skill development

  • Support participants in exploring recreational, volunteer, employment, and community opportunities

  • Safely transport participants while utilizing community activities as opportunities for growth and learning

Documentation & Compliance

  • Complete accurate and timely Therap documentation including T-Logs, Attendance, S-Comms, MARs, GERs, Programs, and Appointments

  • Reinforce documentation expectations and assist DSP staff in maintaining documentation quality and completion

  • Support compliance with state regulations, agency standards, participant safety expectations, and habilitative service requirements

Crisis Prevention & Behavioral Support

Compensation and Benefits

  • Starting salary of $50,000 annually based on experience, leadership background, and qualifications
